What breed is your favorite in your flock?

I love my Old English Game Bantam's!
Their so sweet, and curious. Not to mention, both genders are BEAUTIFUL!

I really enjoy our Rhodies. They're bold, curious and seem smart because they catch on immediately- if my wife or I get out of the car with a white carton in our hands, they come running because they assume it's a leftovers box from a restaurant. Any other color carton has no effect. A white bag has no effect.

The Rhodies have also figured out how to exploit any slackness in the chicken wire of their enclosure by sticking their heads under the fence and lifting - any slack and they'll follow the leader out. None of the other chickens will follow but all 6 RIRs will suddenly be out in the front yard.

They're the friendliest of our chickens and, of all our birds, they're only out-friendlied by the turkeys who seem to think I'm the flock daddy.

So sorry, I haven't lost any yet, some are 5 yrs old. I feed my whole flock the All Flock type of feed though, not feed for Layers. I provide calcium in a separate feeder if some feel the need to peck at it. I don't know if that makes a difference but as I have many roosters mixed in, I heard the Layer feeds can harm them, so everyone gets All Flock here. I still get plenty of eggs but some don't lay every single day & that's OK with me. Maybe I just got lucky with mine so far? I didn't know they may die young. 😔
What type of feed do you use? I’m looking at switching from layer feed to all flock.

Good feed sources are limited where I am & I want fresh feed, so Tractor Supply has pretty good product flow, no feed bags sitting around getting buggy or moldy. They seem to stock layer feed in abundance so there are times I may need to call ahead, find which Tractor Supply has All Flock in stock, or let them know ahead of time to set aside 4 or 8 bags. I buy in 4s at a time because that's how many I can fit into 1 tin. I also supplement the pellet feed, Supply scratch grain at times, but in a separate feeder. When I mixed scratch with pellets, a couple of brats used their beaks to shovel out pellets onto the coop floor, in order to eat the scratch.
Let me go get a pic of a bag & I will attach it here. I empty them into a tin as soon as I buy them (bought metal trash cans with lids, sole purpose for feed, rodent proof) & repurpose the bags for trash, they're nice tough bags, yardwork, better than contractors bags on job sites when filling with tile, heavy or sharp items, trim with nails, etc. They make cute all purpose bags, too, if one can sew handles.

Mine would definetly be the Sebright.
I have one named Stormy who is the funniest little thing ever, and she hatched two beautiful babies, the sisters Silver (silver laced) and Penny Joy (gold laced).
PS. Note that Silver and PJ are both half OEGB.
This is Stormy,

Above is my Colubian Wyandotte "Coco" She comes when she is called, also she chose me, to be her favorite not the other way around.

I have a black laced red Wyandotte named Nugget who is my favorite! She’s super friendly and smart! Savvy around the others in the flock and a real personality! She cracks me up all the time with her antics.
If you’re looking for a quirky bird that is very entertaining, I love Ameraucana’s too! Super intelligent bird. They love to perch too!
I had a BLRW they are pretty! They are a true red, and not just golden.

I do not, personally, recommend getting ISAs, Comets, or any other red sexlink hybrid if your intention is to keep them as pets. They tend to have a very short lifespan due to their super high egg production causing problems down the line. 🙁 I've not had a similar experience to what you describe because I stopped getting them years ago after I realized that almost every one of them died at 2-3 years of age from something related to egg laying, particularly internal laying and cancers of the reproductive tract, and those that made it past that age still generally died from those as well later on. It was just too heartbreaking for me to grow attached to a bird and then watch them go through that. I hope you have better luck than I did with yours as they age.
I am careful of getting high production egg layers, because I would like the chicken to have a great long life. I heard that Sapphire Gems can even have layer problems. I had one and it only lasted a couple years.

I LOVE my Nankins! Every last one of them is friendly. They all come looking for attention - flying up on the half door as soon as it's opened. Given half a chance, they ride on my shoulders pretty much anywhere. My bachelor boys will actually walk on a leash!

Of the other breeds I have (or have had) My BJG is VERY chill and likes to be stroked (but not held.) My NH Red is the most personable - she talks constantly, comes up for attention and "purrs" when petted.

My all time favorites, though were my first Nankin rooster, Yosemite Sam and a little red pyle OEGB (Yukon Cornelius, because he was silver AND gold!) Sammy and Yukon were THE BEST in personality, beauty and just plain sociability. I miss my "Bestest Bois!"
