Hatching double-yolkers is NOT impossible, just improbable. It has been done and can be done, but it is very unlikely. If you were going to work on a double yolker breed, it would be impractical to load up your incubator with a bunch of large double yolk eggs and "hope" that one or two of them make it.

It would be much better to hatch any single-yolked eggs laid by your double-yolker hens. Your hatch rate would be much higher and more reliable.

I have a friend who lives in Flat Rock/Henderson NC who goes to a farmer's market near there. She buys from a guy who sells only double yolk eggs. She has bought them for years now and she said they are all double yolked never a single one. When my mom went to visit her they were suppose to go there. But they didn't get the time to and my mom was suppose to ask the guy what chickens he had they laid them. I will have to ask my friend if she can ask next time she goes.

If you find out, please come back and tell us! I would be somewhat interested to know.

oh yes...please do...that is why I posted the question in the first place...I knew you guys would be able to help...and since my source passed on w/o me ever being able to find out I appreciate the input from all...Poisen Ivy...I hope your friend can get the 411 on the breed/process of getting doubles...I dont have chicks yet and there seems to be a market(as small as it may be) for them around my parts...I may well consider it ...wolk-kim and elderoo...thanks for your input as well...I'm new and your knowledge is so helpful...

Exactly right. Double yolked eggs almost never hatch out so if you have a hen that lays them consistently and you try to hatch her eggs you most likely won't end up with any live chicks.

oh..thank you...this person had a consistant run...I have bought many flats from the market and never got one that wasnt double...how do you know what is or isnt one...I just love them...yum

We could always pick them out as doubles as they were always slightly bigger eggs than normal. Maybe he just put them together by size.
