Another vote for silkies-- I have a 9 month old silkie who started to lay at 7 1/2 months, laid for a month, then went broody. She's doing a great job of it, for it being her first go! I haven't seen her out of the nest at all in 3 weeks, although one morning she was sitting in a different nesting box. I picked her up and put her back in the original nest (it's my silkie-sized nest, so it's more convenient for her to sit there) and she's been in there since.

My Buff Orpingtons have been very broody . They seem to do a good job of hatching after the weather cooled down some. They have been very good at raising the chicks , very watchful and protective but still gentle enough to pet them.

Ok I am going to try to find some!!! What is the best way to get silkies!?

I would recommend ordering them online at MurrayMcMurray hatchery. Although they only allow a minimum of 15 chicks so if you want less silkie them maybe try to find someone local or look for another online hatchery!
