I was wondering what breeds of ducks are likley to go broody other then muscovys? I want to put an order into Metzer next week and although I know that hatchery stock ducks do not go often broody I want the best chance. Thanks

So far I've been very happy with my mallards. The heavily domesticated lines that you get from big hatcheries seem to lay really well. They're beautiful birds, and yes they go broody and make great mothers. Mine are friendly and the female leads the flock of nine other assorted breeds.

Rare for a khaki but it happens. There have also been runners going broody from time to time reported here.

What about Muscovies? Aren't they good broodies?

Runners aren't supposed to get broody as often, but both of Nettie's ducks go broody frequently. Can't speak on their ability to raise ducklings though - we have no drakes here so letting them sit on the eggs just would be a waste of eggs
