someone left an egg on a table at the poultry show and a boy picked it up and gave it to me, I put it in the incubator and it hatched!
can you tell me is this a duckling or a goose. It hatched on the 29th day. I put a 1 wk old silkie next to it so you could get an idea of the size. What breed is it please?
thanks

Looks similar to our utility Africans and the Toulouse we just hatched too.

You will want to take the news papers out, they can cause serious leg issues because of being so slippery. Rubber shelf/drawer liner works great. Enjoy the gosling.

thanks so much for your input, I put down the shavings to keep him from slipping, but I will use the shelf liner or some paper towels. I gave it a bowl of water, but it got in it and played in it. So I took it out, because didn't want him to stay wet. I didn't think geese needed to swim like ducks like to do. I used to have African geese about 20 yrs ago, just forgot what they looked like when they hatched. He sure is cute, but he needs a friend.

Aw, he's so cute!

Goslings love to play with water, but they shouldn't be wet all the time. Maybe you can take him to the tub once in a while to bathe?

They do however need to be able to rinse their bills and eyes, so he should have access to water deep enough to dunk his head. It will get messy, but goslings are messy.

I just got 2 goslings from Ideal this morning and they look just like your baby. Mine are Africans. But I'm definately no expert as these are my first goslings.
