What breed of guinea should i get?

Guineas have only two body types the regular and the jumbo. There is not much difference between the two except size. There is not any difference between the different colors of guineas except color.

They are not like chickens who have been domesticated thousands of years longer. We humans are only just now changing their colors.

If they are what you want I don't know. You have three choices They are all Helmeted Guinea fowl.

1 French Guineas = Large but you cant breed them
2 Jumbo Guineas = Large and can be bred
3 Regular Guineas = Medum and can be bred (the only kind that comes in different colors)

All lay eggs
All are a little smaller than a full sized chicken.
None are good broodies or mothers.

I never had jumbo. but i suspect a Guinea is a guinea no matter the size. Some people have no problems with them mixed in with their chickens. I am one of those people, but I never kept them locked in the same run area together. My Guineas had eighteen acres to roam about on. If I fed around the time the guineas were there they chased the chickens off the feed. I put down several feeding areas. But If I had to keep them enclosed I would definitely keep the Guineas separated from the chickens.

I also lost every single chicken and guinea in about thirty days one spring due to predators. My next flock/flocks of chickens will be locked in a run. The guineas will have their own and only part of them at a time will be allowed to free range.

So the answer is I don't know which one would be better.

i'll probably just get regular ones then but thanks for all your information. you have been a real help.

you need royal purple guineas or any color but not pearl, white or pied guineas. THEY ARE THE LOUD ONES OF ALL THE COLOR GUINEAS

I have royal purple, lavender, lavender pied, white, pearly whites, pearls, pearl pied and they all good to eat.
PS our Royal purples are just as noisy as the rest of the colors
Never had jumbos or french guineas here but some of my guineas are really big and i have some hens that are very small also, they look like Minni guineas to me
