I'm not sure if this question belongs here or somewhere else; but, I figured I'd give it a shot. I'd like to start producing some hatching eggs as spring gets a little closer and I'm wondering what kind of roo would be best for my flock. I don't know what breed of rooster to get. In fact, I don't know which of my ladies to try to mate a rooster with.

I have 2 Barred Rocks, and 1 each of Ameracauna, Auracana, New Hampshire Red, and Black Jersey Giant.

Anyone have any experience with any of these breeds making good (or bad) mamas?

I'd appreciate any advice!

if you get a br you will have a trio of rocks and pure breed chicks but if it doesnt matter if they are pure or not find a breed that you like and get a rooster of that breed. any rooster breed to the Ameracauna and Auracana will be ee's unless you get a rooster of one or both of those breeds.

i incubate my eggs so i have never had a broody hen eaither

); but, I'm going to take some today when I get home. We just got five of my six chickens last night and the other one (and her ducky companion) we got the night before. And we already got an egg!

I have a Barred Rock Roo who is a great boy. He defends his girls, calls them when he finds treats, and is kind to us. A barred rooster bred to any of those hens will result in babies with some barring and mixed colors.
