I am a newbie to raising chickens. I got this rooster from a lady in Oklahoma. She said he is 11 months old and is a Barred Rock. However, when I look online, it says that Barred Rocks have yellow feet and legs. Anyone know what breed I have? His comb has dark spots because he flew out of the ladies' coop and was attacked by a dog. Thanks for your help!

Cuckoo marans
He is not a Cuckoo Marans. Males of this breed have two copies of the barring gene and he has one. He could be a Cuckoo Marans mix or he could be a mix of other breeds as well. Without knowing potential parents there is no way of telling. Regardless he is a handsome mix :)

Thank you. He is very sweet and beautiful! Since I really don't know what breed he is for sure, then I guess there is no way of knowing what he will probably produce if he mates with a Rhode Island Red or a black Australorp? (those are the two types of hens I have.)

Nope :) Half of the offspring will be single copy barred but it won't be correlated to sex. Depending on if he is homogenous for white skin, when mated with the RIRs he will likely give offspring with white skin as well and potentially half could have yellow skin. All offspring with the Australorps will have white skin but slate legs :) Just a bunch of pretty mixes but should be good duel-purpose birds!

Another possibility for his breed could be Marans-based Olive Egger. :D

The likely result with those ladies is hardy, vigorous offspring where the females become good layers. :)

I know this is not a great picture but maybe it will shed a little more light on the mixed breeds of my rooster. The lady I got the rooster from said these are his parents. She bought her rooster from a farm store and he was labeled Ameraucana. She bought the hen from a different farm store and she was labeled Plymouth Barred rock.

So with chickens, if they're multiple breeds, they're just automatically called mixes. There isn't any specific nomenclature for the most part. His parents appear to be a Barred Rock and an Australorp. :)
