What do you think would be the most docile with 4 hens. Breeds are Silkie, Duccle, Maran, and Easter Egger.

Roosters:
Buff Orpington
Golden Laced Wyandotte
Rhode Island Red

The one she likes best. And maybe the cravat that if that one doesn't work, she can try a different one?

The thing with roosters is their behavior is what makes or breaks the deal, and behavior is not closely tied to breed. And the behavior or a rooster in this situation is of limited influence on his behavior in a new situation.

You can have a group of roosters, with some more aggressive and some more docile, pull out the dominant bird, big upheaval in those left. Often time the quieter one will really come into his own.

It is just a crap shoot.

If you want hens stressed and running from a rooster you do you..my hens are happier and friendlier without one
Huh my hens settled down when I got the right tempered rooster . But then I wanted chicks so... It depends on the person and their wants for their flock . The right rooster makes for a great experience but a bad one will turn you against them. I think it depends on what the person is looking for and what dynamics they want to bring to their flock .

It depends on the rooster behavior isn't necessarily breed oriented. Which one does she like and which do you think would be a good fit for her flock?

my Buff cochin rooster grew up with the flock. He is calm, fearless and very protective. Hes gentle with the hens and they all run to him at any sign of danger. He's already rescued them from a hawk which was no match for him. I almost felt sorry for the hawk who was getting his ass kicked until it escaped. He always eats last and feeds treats to the girls. That being said...I've also had the opposite with another rooster. He was almost predatory and would literally attack the hens to try to mate with them. No one liked him and he was sent to live out his days on a farm with lots of geese. I also had a White crested Black polish who was a sweet boy but the hens plucked every feather off his head. I segregated him until they grew back and in one afternoon, he was bald and bleeding again. So I see why many people don't care for roosters. Case by case I guess.
