Hey, we are growing our flock soon but unless we build another coop soon we'll only have so much room for newcomers. I have quite a few breeds to choose from and here they are, welsummer, white Leghorn, crested polish, blue Andalusian, black Australorp, blue Cochin and golden sex link. I mainly wanted white and dark brown eggs because I already have the other colors but what do u think? And I ONLY want them for egg production not meat. Thanks:) :) :)

Welsummers- Very, very sweet natured, not the best layers, tend to go broody, very pretty eggs

White leghorns- Slightly crazed, flighty, athletic, very good layers, often have double yolked eggs, great foragers

Australorps- Sweet natured, good layers, even tempered

Cochins- Good natured, often go broody, not a great layer due to the whole broody thing

GSL- high production bird, very sweet natured which makes it tough to put them down when they get reproductive problems, and they get them frequently. I wouldn't keep these birds again. They were too heart breaking.

These are all the breeds I am familiar with. The only ones I wouldn't keep again were the sex-links. I think my favorites of these choices would be the Welsummers, but they aren't the best layers. They have such pretty eggs, though, and are so interactive, friendly and inquisitive.

I would get (for sure) Black Australorps and/or Blue Cochins! They are 2 of my favorite breeds. They are both pretty, good layers, sometimes go broody, and very very very very friendly. I also have some Leghorns and I find them to be very curious making them fun to watch. They are also the best layers in my flock.
