If you are looking for a friendly cuddly chicken I would say a silkie. They do lay eggs, but it takes two of their eggs to equal one normal sized egg

lol i was thinking about getting them:D do u know if they get along with other breeds like brown shavers??

I have a silkie trio with my standard mutts (NHRxBO, BSL, one maybe pure bred BR, but she's a rescue so she's a little off, and all their children) they all get along well. one of the F2 NHRxBO was protecting the silkie cockerel from the cats when we first got him it was so cute.

Sadly not in nz. I'm from a place that has had lots of snow and cold this winter, northern us. not a fun winter TOO STINCKING COLD!!!!
Looking around there seem to be a few poultry shows, I'm don't know how far away they would be from you, but I've gotten a lot of my chickens from shows (the silkie trio and the BSLs) I like the shows because you talk to people who have the breed that you are getting or want to get and they can give you pointers

Hi I raise silkies my self and they are very friendly and loving and cuddley. Mine sleep on my lap and purr while being petted! I also agree that breeder silkies are likely more of what you would want. They are fluffier and more true to the standard. They are excellent layers mine lay a egg a day and skip sunday. Their eggs are smaller but still delicious. They need to be watched if mixed with other breeds because they can easily be bullied because of their docile nature. I think you would get great joy from the silkie breed I know I do.they are truly the teddy bear of the Poultry world! They are so smart and learn words and are usually friendly from when they are babies all the way up to adulthood. Once in awhile you will get a shy silkie but by the time they lay that will change and even the shy ones become cuddley. They truly are sweet birds. They are not mean and mine even get along fabulously With each other. Silkies usually sleep in a pile together on the ground rather than roost. Their feathers look and feel exactly like fur. Even their feet are feathered.one thing about the silkie is that they must be kept dry. Snow is fine but not rain because their feathers lack barbicels water won't run off them like other birds and it will literally soak them think of their feathers like fur because they behave like fur and in rain they can get soaked to the bone and they won't dry as easily so provide a little covered shelter for them. I have all silkies in my flock and I couldn't be happier! They are a great breed. By far the most friendly and loving. You will need to trim their crests about once monthly so they can see. Look at my avatar, that's one of my girls when she was a baby. They are so cute. I highly recommend getting the silkie breed. Hope this helps and best wishes
