What breed should I try next? What are your favorites?

pride&joy :

Try some Asian games and you will be a fan for life. IMO:thumbsup

Much agreed!!

There is a difference between having the average chicken and having an Oriental Game (Shamo, Malay, Asil, Thai, Brazilian, Ga Noi, etc )

You will indeed be a fan for life.

English Orps. cant be beat, they are big, beautiful & very friendly, & so are some of the American lines of Orps. & please dont forget the beautiful Silkies, these are more like pets, they will follow you around like a dog, just make you happy, great birds!!!!!!!!!!!

Sand, I have silkies, polish, buff orphingtons, cochins and frizzles. I am in eastern kentucky. It gets pretty cold here. I havent had any trouble with my silkies. I did however keep a light on them during the really cold winter days. But they all got fat and sassy.

I live in Southern Quebec, and for our climate, I advise:

Chanteclers (White if possible...better personality, IMO). Nice, winter-hardy, dual purpose birds. They'll go broody, lay well and are nice for meat as well

Dominiques: Cold hearty, prolific layers, friendly, and again...truly dual purpose

Cochins: SUPER friendly, cold hardy, broody little chickens...and I love them.

Ameracaunas/EEs: Nice colorful egg basket, friendly, lots of varieties.
