What breed to get???

Nice and friendly will lay eggs for a few years but not a production breed
good cold and heat hardy and broody is not a care either is fine

I have 2 Rhode Island Reds a Barred Rock and a Buff Orpington. My RIRs outlay the other 2 like crazy. They lay every single day. They miss once in a great while regardless of the weather. The other 2 are hit or miss with the Barred laying a few times a week while my BO does consistently zero lately.
My new girls are a Delaware white and another RIR who was supposed to be an easter egger. But neither of them are old enough to lay...not til spring maybe.

Brahmas all the way. I love them! They are so friendly, quirky, an nice looking. I get a decent amount of eggs also.
So far they have been pretty much bulletproof too.

I love brahmas! I have only had light but plan on getting a different color. Mine has twisted toes and i have to cull her she can barely walk.

Brahmas are poor layers.and take forever to even start laying. I had a maran she was skittish so I sold her and the lav orp i had was aggressive so i ate it lol never had a dom but id choose that as I hate single combs lol

I highly recommend Sapphire Gems. All of mine have been really good egg layers and never egg bound.
