What breed to get???

I think all chickens have their own personality and health problems. You could get a orpington and have a crop problem or you could get a super sweet and friendly healthy orpington. You could get a mean maran, brahma or susex or one that had crop problems. I have never had an issue with any of my chickens except one and it was a easter egger it went broody and got very aggressive. I think whatever chickens you get you will love!

Over the years, I have had every breed listed. Marans, I like the Wheatens by the way. Along with Orpingtons were the most prolific egg layers. The Sussex were not far behind. My Brahmas went broody quite a bit, but were not terrible layers. Dominiques do not lay well at all. Plus the eggs are very small for their body size. All of these breeds will do well in a backyard flock.

Never get one breed & color because they're hard to tell apart. Mixing different breeds & colors guarantees you're going to wind up with a beautiful & interesting mix of mutts that are easy to identify.

I have had issues getting the same breeds couldnt tell 2 apart until they were about 16 weeks of age and ones comb got red. A person up the road has chickens and ducks and he has a bunch of brahams, dominiques, and a easter egger. His flock is kinda boring only having 3 different colored chickens.

Some deliberately pick darker colored birds so they aren't highly visible to predators.

Except he has light brahams which arent dark and his easter egger isnt either. The ducks are also white pekins, and there is a eagle and hawk that sit there and watch them. Honestly he doesnt even want them its his wife that does and she wont take care of them.I

Mine are black and white barred, black and white laced ,solid black and 4 blues!
