what breed was your favorite roo?

Oh what a good question!!
My favorite roo was a black australorp. Mr. Pretty was very big but very gentle with his girls and with me. He was so good at scratching out tidbits for his ladies and protecting them. Lost him when the coyotes raided the hen house. He died in the line of duty, a roo of honor. Now I have pryenees to keep the coyotes away, and am looking forward to finding another good roo.

My favorite roos by FAR are my Faverolles. I have several of them (currently 12 to be exact), and they are all awesome in their own way. Never had an aggressive one, they will defend their ladies to their death, but at the end of the day, they are anywhere from downright cuddlers (my bantam blue salmon, Duncan) to tolerating a petting now and then.

They are just fantastic!!!!!!!

My best rooster I have ever had was a turken roo. Of my current flock its a toss between my new hampshire roos or my white orpington cockerel. My white orpington cockerel likes to follow me around when I am visiting them and he doesn't allow for any of the other chickens to approach me while I am there. He keeps them back. I am hoping he stays a sweet boy when he matures.

I've only been doing this chicken thing since last October, and have been really lucky with my accidental roo, Carl. He's an EE. He's a very handsome fella and has been growing into his role. He's 9 months old.

As I added more pullets, and then delved into bantam breeds (which I could only get as straight run) he has managed to keep the peace. Unfortunately, there are three little bantam roosters growing up with us now, and I'm thinking I may have to get rid of two of them. HOWEVER, Carl isn't tearing them up, and they're respecting him. Maybe it will work out.

Carl's only negative trait is that he's over-mating one particular hen. He mates with the others, too, but this particular one he chases down and she's gonna need a shawl soon over her bare back. She's a low status hen - the higher status pullets can refuse to submit and Carl will move on. Not this particular hen, though. Poor girl.

Everything else is great. He's not very cuddly, but I don't mind that. I want him to take care of business, not snuggle with me.

That's a really tough question..I can't choose between mine..:p they are all raised and loved equally..I have silver phoenix, black sumatra, red shouldered yokohama, saipan jungle fowl and a lacy roundhead all great tempered and can all live together..all the boys sleep together and no problems so far..

I had a Speckled Sussex and he was such a gentleman. He never pecked and me or the hens and would sit in my lap and let me pet him. I had to re-home him and the flock fell apart after he left. I had no idea how much he was keeping the peace.

I have an accidental EE roo, too. Sydney is a good boy - protective, good with the girls and not mean. He does take his job seriously though so I try to respect his space unless I want to cuddle him.

He's good about letting me cuddle him. He's a daddy now and takes good care of his babies. One is an ee roo which will take over my new second flock of pullets. He doesn't have a name yet but he is very handsome, just like his daddy.

A BBR rooster - Named Elvis....not sure on breed - thought he was a Brown leghorn but everyone swore they were flighty and he was bigger than other Leghorns I'd seen *shrug* He looked JUST like the kellogg's rooster

- Me and that rooster hated each other - lol it was one of those love hate relationship but he was just so darn pretty. He was a gorgeous wonderful bird I got for free with 4 hens - @ 2 weeks old and Elvis was very friendly but hormones hit and he decided he hated me - but my at the time 2-3 yr old? LOVE. He would let her pick him up - drag him around - mess with any of the girls and what not. Me? he'd spur - but again he was so freakin' regal to look at.
