I'm looking to get a few straight run ducks. Really hoping for good layers. But need to be pretty cheap. You guys got any suggestions? I've done my share of dappling around in khaki campbells but I'm not liking the price all to much.

I strongly suggest buying sexed ducklings to avoid problems such as over-breeding/drake to hen ratio problems. Ideal Poultry sells sexed ducklings really cheap. I would suggest either Khakis, buffs, Rouens, Or pekings.. Females are only $5.95 each which is amazingly cheap to me.

Where are you located? Mine were $4 a duckling at the local feed store. I doubt you are close (Memphis, TN) but if you are I love hatching ducklings in my classroom and I give them away to good homes!

@cheezenkwackers, I'm northeast Ohio area. I'll check out Ideal Poultry. Out of the four breeds you mentioned, @MillersFarm which would you say are the best layers and which are the best meat birds?
Khaki campbells are the best, They lay over 300 eggs a year which is almost everyday. Pekings are a heavy breed and bred for meat purposes but are also good egg layers
