What breed?

Hi,

I’m an experienced breeder in England. I know that in the US you have different genetic pools and variations, so I may think it’s one breed and you may not have it in your country, or you may call it something different (e.g. in the UK we call snowy call ducks Abacots.)

A couple of them look like fawn and white Indian runners to me, and a couple look like buff Orpington’s. They could be across between the two, they don’t look like pure breeds to me. I used to do both of those breeds, and, if you want to be producing good quality, pure-bred Exhibition stock the markings on the ducklings need to be more defined. I think the third one and first one could be crosses, but I’m pretty sure the one at the bottom is a runner.

The OP was told they could be Muscovy or Runner, or a mix of the two. I thought buff too until I saw that information.

They look a lot of the same posture and bill as my duck when she was a baby. She is a fawn and white runner mixed with a (mezter farms) white crested. Maybe yours are a runner hybrid? Wait until they have feathers and then someone on here will be able to tell you they look exactly like their ducks and what breed or hybrid their ducks are.

Just realized you said they could be mix of the two. That's my guess but some might still turn out more dominant to one breed than the others.

Pic 1= Fawn and white runner
Pic 2= need a better pic-possibly a buff
Pic 3= looks like a Welsh Harlequin
Pic 4= definitely a penciled runner

Photo 1 is most probably a fawn runner.
Photo 2 is definitely a buff, I have bred them for years.
Photo 3 is NOT a Welsh harlequin, it will be a cross - definitely not a pure breed!
Photo 4 is another fawn and white runner, although it could be pencilled. You’ll have to wait another month to tell.
