Hatcheries don't select for characteristics according to breed standard. They just hatch as many of a breed as they can, flaws and all, and that's what gets sold. Doesn't mean your bird is a bad one, just that it might have flaws (shape, leg color, or comb, etc.) that would not be up to breeding or show standards. What does hatchery quality mean?
She doesn't fit the breed standard. Most likely why she appeared to be a different breed until we saw her feet. What does hatchery quality mean?
Ok thanks! She doesn't fit the breed standard. Most likely why she appeared to be a different breed until we saw her feet.
Like previously mentioned, hatcheries breed for quantity over quality. They don't selective breed. Any faults or bad qualities are allowed to be reproduced. Therefore some birds coming out of hatcheries are sometimes quite hard to pin a breed label on. They get so bred out from what they're supposed to look like it's crazy. That doesn't make them bad birds though. Just not something you'd want to breed to better a breed or show etc.

I bet she'll still be broody and sit on eggs for you, if you want. (Or even if you don't. )
