Hello BackYard Chicken members! We would like an ID of this chicken. It's comb doesn't seem to be quite like a Sicilian Buttercup, but we can't find anything that matches. She's half the size of the Plymoth Rock, and Blue Andulusion that she is with. She's almost seven months old.

Thank you!

She really is pretty!

So she might be a hybrid? (what do chicken raisers call hybrids? cross-breed?)

I think she's just a hatchery quality buttercup. Hatchery birds get funky combs or leg color at times.

Okay thanks! We noticed that according to BYC they're "rare." How rare does that mean they are? Is it a big deal we own one? Thank you, still a little new to this sort of stuff.

A lot of breeds are qualified as "rare", but to me if you can order them from a hatchery, they're not so rare, are they? Usually means the hatchery charges more for the chicks is all.
That comb can be a conversation started, that's for sure!

Okay, that's what we figured.

The comb is the coolest one I've ever seen. Although, most of the chickens we've owned only had single combs. Two had pea combs though.

I'd say to find one that fits the SOP is rare. But hatchery birds are not rare at all.
