Is there someone who can help me? Are these chicks what the person I got them from said they are? If not, what breeds?

I'm not too familiar with Marans, but according to online photos they look like them. As for the Penedesencas, I don't know. Usually their combs flare out towards the back. I mean, there are extra points on the sides of the last point of the comb.
