Now that some of my girls are starting to lay, I’m second guessing their breeds. Any thoughts?

1. Sold to me as an Ameraucana but laying light green eggs.
2. Sold to me as an Olive Egger but now I’m thinking Blue Cooper Maran.
3. Sold to me as Black Copper Maran which she may be but now I’m wondering Autralorp? She has a blue/green sheen and gold head feathers but laying medium brown eggs.

1)EE, this can essentially be any mix of breeds these days to achieve the colored eggs.
2) OE, she looks like an Ameraucana /Marans mix. This is the original olive Egger blend. There’s always a chance that they lay brown instead of olive, though this egg looks like it has an olive tint to it in the photo.
3) BCM, not all BCM lay those classic dark brown eggs.

He was dropped off would he breed blue eggs?

It's possible. You would know if you let him father some chicks with your marans and raised them to laying age.

let's say you got olive eggs from the pair's offspring. That means one brown gene from mom, one blue gene from dad.

If all the eggs are brown, then he probably doesn't carry blue egg genes.

If there are some brown eggs and some green eggs from their offspring, he may have one brown egg gene and one blue egg gene.

Then, there's the possibility that he has white or cream egg genes. I don't know how those would mix with the marans dark brown egg color but you wouldn't get any green eggs.

Because he looks like an EE silkie to me, he might have a blue egg and cream egg gene.
Good luck!
