Hi Friends,

it seems my ducks have started with their fall molt and all over the garden there are beautiful white feathers like these:
full

There will be a lot of feathers from my 17 Ducks, in many different colors…
Have you ever done or made something useful with your duck's feathers?
Other than enjoying a rare »snow storm« in September.

quills for caligraphy, adornments for artwork such as dream catchers etc, they used to use em to for blankets and pillows too
I actually thought about using them to stuff a pillow, but i have no clue how to wash them and how to prepare them for the use in a pillow.

Well you can make an Indian hat ;)
I use my feathers for keychain by hotglue ing a ring to the feather hen attaching it to purse car keys etc. I also made a picture with a feather on it .
My wife also promised me a picture made out of feathers…

Do they actually rot? - They are the same material as our hair and fingernails, right?(Keratin)

"Bird feathers in compost break down relatively easily – they should break down totally within just a few months. The only real hazard is wind. Make sure to add your feathers on a day without wind, and cover them up with heavier material once you’ve added them to keep them from blowing everywhere. You can also soak them in water for a day beforehand both to weigh them down and jump start the decomposing process.
