Hello,
I have a hen who ended up with a gash inder her bottom beak. I didn't see it until I realized she was not eating but trying to. I picker her up and saw the infection and removed it. I have been washing with hibiclease and/or chlorhexadine then treating her with triple antibiotic without pain relief in addition to colloidal silver. Typically, that combo works for most everything however, 2 weeks in now and she is losing balance from weakness and losing weight. She still runs to me and still tries to eat everything she can no matter how soft, small, crunchy, delicate etc. I can smell her from a few feet away and it's just pure infection. I believe it's closing her esophagus. That being said, I could cull her with an axe but prefer not to. I would much rather give her an OD of sedative or pain med and let her go to sleep quickly. I need assistance in what to use around the house. Something you have tried on animals and were successful with. I do not have an available avian vet nearby and I need to let her go with dignity. Please help.
