We are starting a garden and getting our first baby chicks in the next couple of months. I’m trying to be as prepared as possible.

What do you grow that your flock loves to eat? Is there anything you’ve noticed they like the most? Any info is welcomed!

Chickens eat garden pests, so it's not quite right to believe they're compatible with a vegetable garden. Chickens enjoy tender greens and will devastate beets, cabbage, chards and even broccoli. They're always drawn to the red color and they're going to eat all the tomatoes they can touch.

It is tempting to let them roam your garden to eat the bugs but don't do it. Without serious supervision they can very quickly devastate your veggies.
That being said, they will enjoy lettuce, spinach, corn, peas, pumpkins, squash, tomatoes, pepper (seeds. Mine wont eat the flesh), herbs etc.

No green tomato or potato leaves and no green skinned potatoes. They are toxic but chickens are pretty good at avoiding the things that make them sick.

We definitely do not plan to let them into the garden as I’m aware of the destruction they can leave in their wake, lol! Thanks for the suggestions and what to avoid 😊
