I love my Muscovies, but even though I raised my pair from about 6 weeks of age, the female did fly away once and never returned. Probably felt like she was being kept as a concubine for my "needy" male.
Anyhow, the next female I got has never been out of the run (except once on accident), and is now sitting on 18 eggs. I'm hoping that after they hatch that she wouldn't take off if I let her out. I'll probably need to clip her wing, but she was purchased as a young adult and has NEVER been comfortable being anywhere near me. The male on the other hand I pick up and toss into the mini-pond or up onto the raised lawn. He really came around after initially scoffing at my presence.
They are quiet, which is wonderful. For the most part, friendly too. I did enjoy my male biting at my sister a few times recently. Good boy.
