What caused this????

One of my rescue chickens had a massive swelling of her wattles, face and her throat was almost black with what appeared to be a haematoma - her chest was also swollen and I thought she would die, however, after giving her scrambled egg for two days and slowly introducing her to her normal feed she is OK... she still has a small swelling in her throat area but all appears to be well now - what may have caused this ?????
