what causes eggs to go bad in fridge

they were only 3 weeks old at the most. first time this ever happened . i was told they were watery when cracked open and turned green and smelled when cooking a dozen. scrambled.

Maybe it had tiny crack that you didn't notice?

That's the only thing I can think of. I've kept eggs for months (and buttermilk for .... ever)
 
That's just wrong. Are you sure the egg was not older?

I learned from working in restaurants to rotate the food, always pulling the oldest stock out from the left and adding new on the right. I don't know what else to think.
