I have been really wanting to know what breed this chicken is. It is friendly, letting me hold it for a while, if that info helps. I am thinking this chicken is an Australorp, but I just want to be sure. Here is a photo of me holding it in my lap. Thank you for taking your time to read this!

There are so many fluffy black chicken breeds. She does look like a black Australorp to me but Jersey Giants look very similar too. I see what looks like a bit of copper on her neck which I think would indicate otherwise. Black Sexlinks have copper on them, usually a lot more, but not always because it's a hybrid. I'm sure some genius black chicken identifier will step in shortly. lol ;)

Due to the copper in the neck feathers, this is not pure Australorp if it is an Australorp. A Jersey Giant also would not have copper, and feet bottoms should be yellow, and they are generally taller/broader than an Australorp. This chicken in the pic seems to have shorter looking legs. Can’t see the comb very well other than to see it appears to be a straight/single comb.

Can you get a pic of it from the side, standing? Thx!

If it does have a bit of copper on the neck, could it possibly put a black sex link as an option for what breed it could be?

Yes, but sadly it is not my chicken. I will try to upload as soon as possible. I am new to breed identification, so I did not think about the comb. The photo may not be on till Tuesday, so wait and it will be on soon. Happy Holidays!

If it's 2 then pretty certain it's no BJG. Black sex links are very friendly in my experience and can get to a decent size. Pure Australorp would have pinkish soles vs yellow on BJGs, but neither have any copper leakage unless not purebred.
