Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I think there's still plenty of time. As long as the ground's not frozen it should be fine. How many are you planting? I set out 90 cloves in my 8'x3' garlic plot.
Well, I don't know yet. I set aside 6 heads but some are hardneck so only 6 or 7 cloves each for those. I may plant more. Definitely don't have enough this year. Also planting softnecks. The bed is 16' long. 4' wide?

Filling all our beds with shallots and garlic soon once we finish cleaning out summer's plants. I plan to get it done before November starts. My back won't like pulling and cleaning them next spring, but it is worth it. Free garlic for the kids who pitch in. Two weeks ago I spent some days pulling up all the rocks to re-define the beds in the front yard. Found some cool dead specimens along the way.

I haven't had luck with onions so I think I'll stick with garlic and tomatoes. I'm pretty happy with those crops. And now I know what to do with tomatoes when the rain comes. They are ripening up just fine in the boxes. In fact I'll be pulling some out to blanch and peel tomorrow. Then I'll just freeze them until the others are ripe. Just like I heard you all talk about. :old😊

We grew potatoes last year but they got some sort of fungus and we felt that ruined them. That is a danger of living in the rain forest. It's all around us and too close to my garden I'm afraid. Oh well, I grow what i can.

I started my tomatoes in January!!! I always have a hard time with them. I wouldn't start them quite that early again, maybe late February. I do have a greenhouse but the tomatoes get too tall and spindly if they are in there too long. It all worked out, but I would do it differently next time. Really the secret is getting them off the vine before the rain comes. I'm so happy to learn this.

No more garden work for me today. I went to physical therapy this afternoon and picked up a frozen pizza and ice cream on the way home. I deserved a treat after the workout. LOL
I agree! It's always a good time for frozen pizza and ice cream.
😁

Last year we gave up on all our pear trees because of the pear blight that would come from the cedar trees each year. The forest is lovely but has drawbacks too.
