What Chicken Breeds Are The Friendliest In Your Flock?

I agree with the other posts. Most breeds are good. There are a few exceptions. Leghorns tend to be flighty but there are also exceptions here. I think mostly it depends on your interaction with the birds and each will have it's own personality. Some of mine like to be held and others don't want to be touched.

I have had red sex links, commercial broilers, EE's, orpingtons, a black australorp, la fleche, rosecomb bantams, salmon faverolles, american game chickens and i'm sure i have had some others i'm forgetting. All have eaten out of my hands, my salmon faverolles where the nicest by far, I had one that would walk over to me and stand on her tiptoes with wings open like it wanted picked up, she loved to be carried and petted.

Anyone else sensing a future featured thread here?

Personally, I've had lots of birds. Lots of breeds. Most hatchery.
In order,
Least friendly/absolutely physchotic:
Easter Egger
Asian Black
Wyandotte
Australorp
Japanese Bantam

Most friendly:
Red Ranger
D'Uccle
Orpington
ISA Brown
Brahma
Cinnamon Queen
Leghorn
Jersey Giant

Everyone else was either mediocre or died too soon to tell.

My polish top hat hen! She is nothing but a puppy dog. But she is also the biggest pain in the butt! She is a sweetheart, always wanting to be picked up and following me around. But she is constantly throwing eggs out of the nest boxes and breaking them. I have 4 broody hens and I had to separate them from the flock because she would literally push or pull eggs out from under them and throw them out the box. She is also the reason my nest boxes are always empty because she throws the hay out! She is a huge pain in the butt, but I love her to death!

The most friendly chicken I had was an OEGB, second was silkies. The least friendly I have owned is egyptian fayoumi, my pullets have a more extreme reaction to being touched by a human than my peafowl do. They act a lot like untamed guinea fowl. Sound like they are being killed when you pick them up. They are still my favorite breed, if my flock was destroyed I would start over with just egyptians.

LOL - My EF is just like this, but I love her like crazy. Can't get close, she runs & can fly. Lays the cutest little buff-white egg 4-5 days a week. I have several Wyandottes, all raised together & some of them are wild and flighty and scream when I have to catch them and some are around my ankles and come running when they see me and will allow me to hold them for RX or whatever...So I wouldn't count on Wyandottes for being consistant. My EE would probably be a lap pet if I'd hand raised her, but she was raised by a hen.
