What chickens are cold hardy, gentle.....

Well I went to the feed store and convinced them to order me ten chicks. They wanted me to order 25. But the hatchery they order from doesn't have a big selection. I ended up ordering red rock cross pullets. I wanted RIR but I ope these will be as good. Did I make a mistake?

Oh My Gosh! Call them quickly . . . maybe it isn't too late to cancel the order!

Just kidding - the offspring of RIR male and a Barred Rock female . . . I think that is an excellent choice and so do lots of other people.

Maybe if you call them * Black Stars * your little girl will forget all about wanting white, grumpy chickens

Cochins are nice, but how about a white wyandotte. They have the rose comb which will not freeze. They are in the same body category as a cochin, only without the feathered feet and single comb. They also have a great disposition.

You wanna talk about COLD hardy? Last night when I went out to shut my coop door for the night it was 1 degree F. This morning when I went out to open the door and feed it was -9 F. I apparently didn't see one of my 15 week old white plymouth rock hens curled up in the snow last night. She came happily clucking over to me this morning after staying out side all night in -5 F - -10 F. That is what I call a tough bird.
