My mom wants to give my momma hen and her 5 baby chicks to her friend (building a coop for them and wants to raise them)

She's wondering if she should give our rooster with them to?

So far I have

3 other hens,One rooster, and a chicken with an unknown gender (I might found out later, don't know for sure yet)

Should we just give them those of should we give another chicken(s) with them?

Also- two hens, the rooster and the momma hen grew up together, should I seperate them? I feel kinda bad

I wouldn't give your rooster away. odds are there is probably one maybe two little cockerels in those five chicks she's going to end up. probably with extra roosters she doesn't want. I would keep your rooster just give her the mama hen and the five chicks. let her raise them out and find out what she's got .for all you know, she might have five little boy chickens there. I wouldn't give your rooster away. odds are there is probably one maybe two little boy chicks in those 5 chicks. she's going to end up probably with extra rooster she doesn't want fromthe chicks.
I would keep your rooster just give her the mama hand and the 5 chicks .let her raise them out and find out what she's got. you keep your rooster.
Best,
Karen

Now this can be a hard questions to answer. Do you not have room for the Hen and her chicks? How many Roo's do you have? I would keep him myself if he is gentle and taking care of the ladies. If you have 4 hens and 2 roo's yes I would get rid of one as you don't have enough hens for the 2 roo's. 8 to 10 hens per roo is what I have been told. The poor girls need a break from time to time.

It's 1 roo per 3 hens :)

Also-
We have 3 hens and a chicken that's probably a rooster, should we still keep it THEN?

I would keep your Roo, give her the one you think is a roo and let them raise it. There may be a roo also in the chicks with the hen. So keep the one you already have and is doing its job.

The young one you have is a cockerel. So of your known birds you have one adult rooster, one cockerel and 3 adult hens. Then 5 chicks of unknown gender. Statistically 2 or 3 of those are going to be male. You are probably best off waiting to see what sex the chicks are before you try to divide the lot since there is a good chance you have too many males. I know the freezer isn't an option so you may want to build a separate coop for the extra boys.
