Hello! We are new to the chicken and fowl world as of this month. Our little micro hobby homestead has two milk goats, nine chicks and two ducklings.

Here’s a photo of the chicks. It was such chaos at TSC and I had my kids with me, I wasn’t able to take a moment to memorize or write down what we got and I assumed they’d label them but I saw later the box was super generic. I did remember the words ā€œlavender Orpingtonā€ ā€œmaranā€ and I think we got a Brahma?

Let’s see…the three barred birds, circled in red, are either cuckoo Marans or barred rocks. The one circled in green looks like a buff Brahma, if she has feathered feet. The two chipmunk patterned birds could be any number of breeds, though the one circled in blue looks to have a pea comb, in which case it’s likely an Easter Egger. They were probably marketed as Ameraucanas, Americanas, or some other alternate spelling of that. I’m not sure about the little brown one in the top of the photo, maybe a sex-link of some sort? The big blue one in the second photo is probably your lavender Orpington. :)

I agree completely - red are probably Maran, green is a buff Brahma, blue looks like an Easter Egger, and the second pic are likely lavender Orpingtons.

I think the little gold one in the back of the first pic could be a buff Orpington.

Fun little batch of surprise chicks!!šŸ˜

Wow! Yes there were also Americaunas so I’m glad I actually got them lol. You’re amazing! Thank you so much! When they’re older will it be easier to tell?

I hope you’re right about the yellow one in the back being a buff. I really wanted a buff but had a hard time finding one locally.

You’re very welcome! Yes, as they get more feathers in, identification should be a lot easier. As for the little yellow chick, could you post more pics of her? She could very well be a buff Orp.
