What color are my Button Quail chicks?

just curious, how do you know #2 is a male?

i'd like to know also...lol
and how do you tell that #1 is a pearl?

Compared to a wild type, it is getting pearling in the feather plummage. I just hatched one out today. This time I WILL take a photo of it and start posting

That's a good question, I'd like to know too. I don't see any red or blue on it yet, I think it's too young.

I've hatched quiet a few of the Wild Type buttons..and all of them looked like #2 and they were all males. They just look that way. I've never had one be a female that looked like that.

I hatched 4 wilds the other day, they're all acting like little males...they call 24/7 non-stop and they bully the other chicks.

all these guys are pretty friendly, whether they are guys or girls

I'm gonna hijack this thread for a moment and ask the same question about mine

5 weeks old roughly, and I'm thinking female because there's no red feathering at the vent?

At this age if she doesn't have red vent feathers she's not going to get them. Are the flight feathers white? The face looks white too. She looks like a tuxedo, but I only recently got tuxedo eggs and they weren't laying (I don't think) when I sent these eggs to you. If she does have a white face and white flights then she's a cinnamon tuxedo. She looks like one of my old hens, who is supposedly a cinnamon pearl.

Have you ever hatched female wilds? Because they look like that too

You can't tell them apart until the males start getting their 'boy' colors.

As far as I can tell she has the white flights, not sure about the face. I don't feel like trying to capture her a second time right away

So, now I need to either find someone in the area who has a male they are looking to get rid of, or would be willing to take her. One quail would be awfully lonely I imagine!
