Hi everyone!

One of my pairs of Buttonquails hatched this baby! The mother and father are both basic brown. Both of their parents are basic brown and silver. What color is this hen? I have attached photos from the day she was born and what she looks like now. She is 3 weeks old and the only one of the clutch that hatched! She appears to be a red breasted but I am not sure, and her head feathers really aren’t growing in for some reason!

It's normal for the head feathers to come in later than the body feathers - they aren't prioritized because it's more important in the wild to be able to fly and to keep the body dry by having back feathers.
I'm pretty sure she's red breasted. It's a recessive mutation so both parents are carrying the gene without showing it, and passed it on to her.
Her color should become more clear during the next few weeks. Red breasteds typically don't stay the same color as their first feathers would suggest.
