What color is my EE?

Mottling is a color pattern. Usually a bird with a black background with little bits of white speckles scattered around in the black feathering is called mottling. But your bird has a blue feathering background with little bits of red speckles scattered around in the blue feathering creating sort of a mottling or mottled look. Mottling is a type of color pattern.

oh yes, I might add not to get confused with molting: when the chickens shed their feathers and grow a new set of feathers.

Mottling isn't just random specks of colour. It is a spot (as you said, usually white on black) at the end of the feather. A well mottled bird should have a mottle on every feather.

This one appears to have red feathers on her breast that are mottled with the light blue of her body colour--very pretty. I can't tell for sure, but the red and light blue on her back look more barred than mottled. To me she does look to be more of a lavender colour, but the red would indeed be far more diluted.
