First picture, Lav Split silkie on left, mystery silkie on right. Seller said the eggs were from black chicks, but it seems like this chick is a steel gray with yellowish fluff on the chest/underbelly.

Second picture, on the right black cochin and left the mystery silkie. What do you silkie experts think?I had temperature problems and this is all that hatched, supposedly I bought black silkies.

It looks like a blue. I get blues sometimes when my blacks are crossed. It could turn out to be a black when it gets older. Check its wing feathers. What color are they?

He's too new to check his wing feathers yet. I thought about blue, but he looks really "steel gray" whereas when I hatch blue chicks, they usually look"Blue". I have added a pic of the chick with a blue americauna behind him to my original post.

You should be able too. Just take his wing and pull it out gently. There the new feathers should be coming in. They wont be coming out of the casing yet but you can get an idea of what the color will be. I do this when I am checking the colors for my splash and white chicks. The baby could also be a tortishell. They will be all black except for a ring of whit feathers around the neck. Just a thought. I get all sorts of different colors when I hatch my silkies. I get whites that hatch out grey looking a lot of the time.

Sonew, the lav split in the first photo pictured with the mystery chick is yours. He's a healthy and peppy little guy, and he is darker colored than this one I hatched from another person. I had a dismal hatch for the batch with the mystery chick. 18 eggs and he's the only one. But, he is a mystery, so that's fun.

Fluffnstuff, his wing feathers are the same color as the feathers on his body as best I can tell. I'm thinking dark blue...but could he br gray?
