What color is this silkie?? Is it a self-blue?? **PICS**

I looked him over this afternoon and his flight feathers don't have any streaking at all. I think that is just a shadow...but I'll keep an eye on that as well. Thanks for the input Spot...

It looks like a white with a touch smoke in it. I was taught by one of the best that to keep your birds good and white and for them not to yellow to always keep some smoke in your males. but it does come on the females also. I have one i hatched last year. There maybe a gene hidden in there trying to come out. Here is mine compared to a regular white.

I agree that the cockerel is VERY light...with the more intense color in his cushion because the feathers are denser there.

I just came in from looking him over and can't find ANY spots or color in his feather shafts anywhere.

What could I breed him to to repeat the color.

Breed him back to his mother--since you cannot tell a split lav by appearance, and my understanding is that you don't have any other lavenders, the only ones you KNOW are split are his parents. Obviously you can't breed him to his father, but you can breed him to his mother. 50% of the offspring should be lavender and the other half will be splits.

Unfortunately, I purchased these eggs off eggbid and don't have either parents. I guess I can look for a lavender hen and see how it goes from there. I only have 2 white and 1 splash hen.

Thanks!!
