So if the OP's bird looks similar to this Marans why would we not call it a Golden Birchen? Also the OP is from Nova Scotia, so what are the standards for Birchen color/pattern in Nova Scotia--do they follow the US or English standards? I think what you are saying is that this bird does not conform to a standard of perfection for 'Birchen', but what I am wondering is at what point do we use descriptive terms for a color on a HQ or mixed breed bird if we want to identify a color/pattern. Would it be ok to call it a Birchen-type pattern with gold bleed?
