I bought my first bag of Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth last week (newbie) and sprinkled some in the coop and the run. Last night while reading up on D.E. and its uses the article referred to the D.E. as being white in color. This surprised me because my D.E. is grayish-brownish in color. The article said that D.E. comes in other colors, such as grayish-brownish, but this D.E. has a higher clay content. So my question is this: although the bag of D.E. I purchased is supposed to be "food grade", should I continue to use it around my chickens or should I buy a bag of white D.E. for the hens and use this grayish D.E. for other purposes around the yard? Is the clay content harmful to my hens?
Thanks for your advice!
