I have a lovely buff silkie roo in my banty pen. He is my backup roo for the buff silkie pen. Anyway, I am wanting to add another silkie color to my world. I just don't want to build another pen. I'm wondering what mixes with buff. For some reason in my head I was thinking that buff and blue blended to make some pattern, but in researching it seems that just makes smutty buffs. Am I destined to build another pen or can I mix this guy with something else?

You cant really mix any colors if your showing your birds. Thats stinks, I know!

Aha! That was the mix I was thinking about! I knew something mixed with buff made porcelain. Darnit. Now I have to get lavenders. [IMG]

Joe17- Mu buff pen is pure all the way. This buff rooster is my backup rooster in case of failure of my main buff silkie rooster. He is in a seperate pen with my random banties (they needed a rooster and I needed a pen for him). I was just comtemplating adding another color to the mix. You know how it is. [IMG]

Sundown- my girls have finally started laying. I have 7 buff eggs in the bator due to hatch in another week or so. Interestingly enough, one of the girls has gone broody. She's not yet a year old and by golly she is hunkered down on that nest. I gave her 8 eggs to sit on. We'll see how she does. One of my hatchery silkies has four of their eggs as well. We'll see what happens. I'll keep you posted if you are still interested in a trade.
Disclaimer- I am not NPIP. HBeuler is and has bought several of my ameraucanas. She has had everybody tested and says I am clean. I just haven't done the NPIP thing yet. I'm trying to decide if I want to or not. I know you are and that will color your decision. Just thought to offer anyway. Let me know what you think.

I guess if I had to add another color to a buff pen I would add partridge. I would not add anything else if it were me but if your not palnning on showing...mix whatever floats your boat! I have a pretty little calico I have no idea how she came about so mixed colored birds can sure be pretty....
