I know most of them arepartridge, grey partridge, smutty buff, blue, white and I think theres possibly a paint in there but I cant tell apart the different partridge and the buds and unsure if the last one is possibly paint or splash? (The pictures posted twice as well)

Chick down colour doesn’t always show true for what the colour they will be when they are fully feathered so some of those chicks could go either way.

You’ve got the majority of colours correct though!

I’m busy at the moment but I’ll be back later with more details to try and help you out 🙂

I'm not much help when it comes to partridge or buff but the last little one is definitely looking like a little paint to me. From what I've seen splash chicks get the darker splashes of color as they grow, I don't think it's typical to see it in chick down. Paints on the other hand will usually hatch with some spots (like your baby).

Paints are supposed to be black based (so they have black spots) but if colors were being mixed together and blue or splash gets mixed in you can get blue or even splash paints. Your little ones spots look a bit light to me so there is a slight possibility he/she could be blue based and will get blue spots rather than black as he/she grows.

Wanted to share some pics of my 2 1/2 week old silkies/showgirls. I know it’s early, but really thinking the grey splash (Bill) and maybe Remy the black one are cockerels? :(. What do you guys think? And would Bill be considered a Satin? 37C6A45C-CF58-4F55-9DB0-6BB8232FB9E5.jpeg D88EEF95-BDAB-4107-B9D6-40A050049C40.jpeg 76105E45-79FB-4FA3-84C1-E38DD26D52B3.jpeg 066C632E-2094-4673-A5B6-7DCEC7C04274.jpeg 7E821F56-63D2-4C55-A0B4-8EECC5F886EA.jpeg 1ABCF88A-CFBA-4260-956E-805C11138821.jpeg 78545E2F-8317-4523-9F05-41E724D59ADC.jpeg 5A78E275-8E01-47AC-9413-5D010F237DBB.jpeg 4A2CAD02-D07F-4DA4-8EDF-C2177BF68566.jpeg 86B76E60-44ED-42C4-A447-9829E0CAA653.jpeg 7E3C9CB1-B2C2-4E0D-B612-3E9CD1155988.jpeg

Adorable babies! :)

Bill definitely has regular smooth feathers and not silkie feathers so probably is a smooth satin.

The stance of Bill and Remy would make me lean more towards being boys but it's still very early to tell. I've had my share of females who exhibited more male like behavior as chicks. The comb starting to grow in is usually the first more accurate indicator for me when trying to determine sex. Streamers are the next thing I look for once the babies are old enough.

Thank you!!! It would be awesome if they end up being girls, but we will see... will post more pics in the future.

I took a few more pics of Alice today. The breeder did say she had a mixed variety of silkies including satins and sizzles. I’ve never had a funny feathered chicken other than silkie. So my question is, is Alice a sizzle? And what color would you call her? Just curious. I love them all the same and I think they are all beautiful! 75959B0C-A3E1-4BB3-A3AB-EE9105896129.jpeg 161D877C-C38D-4662-B5BB-A507D916C782.jpeg C58EA9E9-9464-41BD-8BCF-8E1659A98359.jpeg 78761A21-D45E-4935-906C-7BE2E55FAB83.jpeg 5EFD61A4-6EA0-4A52-9890-49D0A06D507A.jpeg DC0DDE0B-A647-482C-84AF-E11F085DE679.jpeg BCFCF8E8-8539-4743-BFE0-B722B81E9D59.jpeg 1F6AD776-28EE-4F76-8CE5-57DCEFDCC440.jpeg 3CEA4FA3-3453-4C89-B211-DCFB8B685646.jpeg 6F09C22C-420D-47B5-895C-AEBDB91225F8.jpeg 641A2FAD-6A29-4FCA-8617-B684FF6BE7B2.jpeg

Hopefully someone with more experience with other feather types in silkies will see your post and chime in but from what I can see it's hard to say. I definitely see those wing feathers curling but I've had some regular silkie feathered silkies sometimes have a bit of a curl at the wingtips.

It looks like she is silkie feathered to me so if she is also frizzled I believe you'd call her a frizzled silkie. From what I've read/heard sizzle and satin or the same thing (a non silkie feathered bird bred to the silkie standard that can come in the smooth or frizzled variety) but satin is the newer term and what those working on sizzle/satin projects hope to have the breed name be should they be recognized as a breed in the future. I could be wrong though, it's all a bit confusing to me.

As far as color I'm guessing she is probably some sort of mix. Just looking at her now I'd bet she'll likely end up either looking somewhat like a light partridge or smutty buff but you never know. The darker colored feathers are light enough I'm guessing there is some dilution there, likely she has has some blue involved in her color. She's a cutie anyway, it'll be interesting seeing what she turns into as she grows! :)

Thanks for all the info! Yeah, all the different types, sort of confuse me. But thank you!!!
