What colors would you get from a blue-laced red and a blue?

I was just looking at picks of a blue laced red wyandotte and a giant blue cochin and wondering

Wish I knew more about color genetics. Every time I find a page to read about it I get completely lost in all the letters, numbers etc...

I wish some of it would stick

I am no expert but since no one else has gotten to it yet im going to guess.....

I assume you would get splash, blue and splash and blue birds with minimal lacing in the first generation

Looks like black, splash and blue... So, no different than blue and blue?

Would a second gen be any different?

How does lacing work?

I'm actually getting a few of these chicks. Not on purpose anyways.... We kicked all of our adults out of the breeding pens over a month ago to make room for the youngsters. All we have free-ranging for chickens now is the standard BLR wyndottes and the standard cochins. We have mainly the splash variation of the BLR's. On the cochins, there is a splash cock and a couple of blue hens. I've put the few eggs out of them in the incubator just for the heck of it.

The crosses are really easy to tell and they have all been coming out the same color. I took some pics of one just hatched last friday and will post them below. They are all a light greyish with rose combs and partial feather legs. You can tell the pure BLR's because they are a rose grey with bluish stripes for down, rose combs, and clean legged. The pure cochins get single combs and much more feathering on the feet than the crosses.

The crosses look almost like a pure cochin as they feather out. No sign of the lacing as far as I could tell. The rose comb and feather legs are dead giveaways though. I've been giving all of those crosses away here before they hit a month old. It doesn't pay to feed out a cross here.

Hmmmm, I was hoping this would pass on the lacing...

Shows you how much I know LOL

Well I would think that if you crossed F1 generation back to the BLR chicken, the lacing would probably show up in at least some of the birds. (my completely un-educated guess.)

Good Luck!!

When we were working with the LF BLRW's we managed to find some blue hens with great type to breed them to and we got males with very poor lacing and mostly solid females with some red here and there. When bred back to BLR they produced better BLR's with better type. You will also get the basic black blue splash thing since both birds are blue.
