What colour is our bantam pekin/cochin?

Hi there

We were hoping someone may be able to help us with the colour of our pekin cockerel....





we hatched him as a silver pekin, but don't think thats what he is as he's pretty dark. any ideas?

he hatched a light buff colour so wasn't expecting him to feather up so dark...

wow.. thats unexpected...BUT seems like he carry all of the genes need it to fully melanize a buff bird, which is very hard. I have seen wildtype chicks(chipmunk strips) that turn out to be black when adults, which is rare. so you have an special bird on your hands

Thanks alot, it was very unexpected! so you think he may be a melanised buff from silver pekins? i can't seem to find a true colour standard he fits into.....

if he was melanised, would he pass the gene over? it sounds very exciting!
