What could be causing these geese to be so spooked?

The reason geese are terrified of dogs is because are at the top of the predator list. Coyote are everywhere rven in NY city. Falcons will take down a goose in flight saw that on you tube so I’d think a goose that’s maybe sick a red tail would attack an Eagle also. We had a member who’s goose was attacked and killed by a mink they have very sharp teeth and go for the head and neck I believe. We don’t see very many predators except on our game camera they are sneaky. Have to be to survive.

So the geese actually think the dogs are coyotes? That makes sense I guess.. even tho the dogs don’t even care about the geese. And that’s crazy, I didn’t know those hawks would do that to a big goose since the hawks are smaller. The geese don’t seem to be scared of the hawks though. What is a mink? I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of them before, and do u work with geese and other birds? A game camera sounds interesting

There was also a dead raccoon laying on the side near the lake behind a store plaza. Not sure how it dyed but the geese still came out and weren’t even phased by it. We were also watching this turkey vulture trying to eat the dead raccoon while the geese were standing right there next to it.

I have had domestic geese since 2007. Dogs can be a horrible threat to water fowl in general, they kill many domestic and wild every year. People letting their dogs run loose can become a killing pack.

Look up Falcon taking down a goose on you tube.

Sounds to me like they are acting just like the wild animals that they are. Very sensible birds.

We’ve been feeding these same geese since the spring, I agree, they are very sensible birds but they have never acted spooked like this before over every little thing.
