I think you did the right thing, though it hurts. As a future note on the sour crop treatment, I too had a pullet who we helped her "throw up" because she had sour crop. I later learned that chickens aspire easily. She lasted 3days and then started making a gurgling noise. Sure enough, those days I thought I was helping her, she ended up aspiring and dying. I felt so bad.

I'm sure your chick will do good. I just had to send one of my 3 chicks off to "turkey school" LOL! My friend had only one single turkey hatch out and she said it will die without another chick....(? I know nothing about turkeys) Anyways, my 8yr old cried her eyes out, but this friend has given us MANY chickens, so asking for one chick, I just couldn't say no.

At the time we tried the regurgitation treatment we were at the point where we thought she was going to pass anyway. It was a last ditch effort - a vain attempt to try and help her. I agree with you 100% - it is certainly not something I would recommend lightly.

Thank you also for your assurances that the chick will be ok. He is my main concern at the moment. My brother is on standby to take him, but I think I'd like to keep him another week or so and settle him. He was standing in his pen crying last night, and I think it might be a good idea to teach him how to put himself to bed each night before sending him away. I also think that for now he has enough to cope with in losing his Momma. She doesn't need to go to strange places, and away from me, all in one day.

I agree with you. Sweet little Peepers is going through alot. Lost his Momma. Thats alot of stress in it self. I am concerned id he moves to a new place ontop of all this that he may suffer depression, temporarily stop eating, drinking exc..
Sweet little Peeper knows you and used to you at least Peepers has comfort and company there. Did you bring him in doors last night? How did he do through out the night? I hope he didnt suffer loneliness. Did he seem to do ok today?
