Feed doesn't have to smell bad to be old.Do it smell bad??
It smells like always.. I went today and grabbed a new bag from the co-op with some 5 grain scratch also..Feed doesn't have to smell bad to be old.
Not saying that isn't true, but this would be the first I've heard that being egg bound is a sign of going into molt and the first I've heard of withdrawing feed to encourage them to molt. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that myself. It smells like always.. I went today and grabbed a new bag from the co-op with some 5 grain scratch also..
The people at the co-op said they may be trying to go into a molt (they told me I could speed up the process by with drawing food 24-48 hours) however I am not comfortable with this I would rather them molt on there own
Sorry, they said soft shells (see original pic) the egg bound and soft shell part I am trying to determine a cause and correctionNot saying that isn't true, but this would be the first I've heard that being egg bound is a sign of going into molt and the first I've heard of withdrawing feed to encourage them to molt. Yep, that's what it is.This is what one of my girls passed today.. looks like a eggless membrane all crumbled up.. any ideas??? Need help can’t lose my girls
I actually saw a piece hanging and her straining.. I ran her an epsom salt bath.. and as her vent pulsed (I kept gentle pressure ) and it slowly emerged with each vent pulse.Yep, that's what it is.
Did you see her pass it or find it on the ground?
Ok will do update my profileSounds like she still has a calcium issue.
I skimmed back thru the thread and don't think I saw an age on these birds?
Do you have other birds the same age laying OK?
Did you change their feed at all?
Be careful pulling on anything coming out the vent.
I've had a membrane hanger, put her in a crate and she passed it by morning.
Would also help to know....
