I went to the coop today to find one of barred rocks dead. They were all fine yesterday despite the cold. Had warm oatmeal in the am, fresh water, got the usual 12 eggs, I had 15 hens in all. They are locked up at nights and have a heat lamp. There was no indication any of them were sick. I see no blood or prolapse. What could it be? I am afraid for my remaining 14 hens.

Sometimes that just happens. Watch your other hens for other symptoms. If they show up post about it.
Sorry you lost her.

I agree that sometimes it just happens. Could have been just something inside that went bad....just an example.....bad heart.
I had picked out my roo out of about 5 roos and when he matured and about a week after I took care of the rest, I went in my coop and found him dead. Head all blue and it was early summer so it looked like there was lack of oxygen. Don't know for sure though. That was a BAD day. I don't know about you but something 9 out of 10 times happens to my favorite chickens. I think the predators spy on me.

Do watch and feel your others for any signs of sickness.
