Any thoughts on what these could be?

I have a question and can't start a new conversation. I just went to butt a RIR pullet (not sure what the rest of my mutt chickens are) and the lady told me that none of my pullets would be good layers because they have feathers on their legs. ..does that make any sense?

Then you should have asked her !!! GIVE ME A SOLUTION!!!
The reality is some chickens lay better than others. Feathered leg chickens may be cochins or mixes or other. They are maybe not the greatest producers , but are still OK. Your RIR is one that is a top choice for great brown eggs. There are others that are great also. The white leghorn is most likely the best white egg producer worldwide. Also the most abundant variety worldwide. Most of your grocery store eggs likely come from those.

WISHING YOU BEST

Could a cochine be mixed with a great layer and look like cochin but lay like a RIR for example? One of my pullets looks exactly like a sexlink but has feathers on her legs. ..I felt like she was insulting my girls. .lol...our trying to sell me more of hers..thanks for your help.

I may be that the lady is thinking that your birds with feathered legs have Cochin in them and that since Cochins are typically poor layers, your mixed breeds with Cochin in them will be as well. If so, her assumption may or may not be true. If they Cochin is mixed with good laying breeds like RIRs or Leghorns, the offspring will likely not be as great a layers as their RIR or Leghorn parents, but they still could be good layers. Unless the lady knows for sure that the feathered legs are from Cochin stock, the feathered legs could also be from another breed with feathered legs such as Brahmas which are much better layers than Cochins. If any of your feathered legged birds have pea combs this is especially likely. It would really help if you can figure out how to get some pics posted. Without some photos of your birds, the help we can give you is limited. It's a bit like shooting in the dark.
