What could this be?!

Hmm I dont even live in America so idk if it lives near you but i was thinking maybe a raccoon?
coons are in every state but they would have just climbed the fence. My guess would be a canine. ( dog wolf coyote ). My guess is something spooked it

Sorry for the dumb question... But are there all of these wild animals in Illinois? (bears, wolves, coyotes...)

There have been 10 confirmed gray wolves sighted in Illinois in the last 15 years. Black bears, coyotes, and mountain lions/cougars are in just about every single state of the country. And those that say they have no wild predators to deal with because they live in an urban environment are just being naive. North America is home to some very adaptable creatures.

Just by the way the chain link was opened makes me think a young black bear....Cats or wolves, coyotes, fox all dig....

A young Black Bear was spotted last year not far from my area...Not many sightings here but still a potential for any type of animal to get confused and wander in...

Good luck...

I'm in the southern tip of Illinois. I've seen a red wolf on more then one occasion and a mountain lion. I also know of a black bear bout 2 miles from my house a local game warden found his tracks.

Wow... in every single state of the country!! It seems to be quite dangerous to live in the countryside.. Yikes!

Wow! I think, it probably was a young bear

Bears are very strong

Yeah, I live not so far west or North but only a 15 minute drive west of me are Wolves, Bear, cougar and other more wild animals...My biggest worry is the Fox we have around and Coyotes that come at night and howl in my pasture...I have three outside dogs and live on 7 acres but do lock my dogs in at night or they would be barking all night long...During the day things are okay...

I did not figure that there were so many animals in all of the US countries. I think there are still all these animals there because America is still a "young" continent . I mean , there are also bears and wolves in Europe but declined greatly over the centuries .. Europe has twice the US population but your population will surely and greatly increase in the future and so wild animals will decrease..
